Do we still use Head Gears for orthodontic treatment?

Our patients are quite familiar with how the traditional braces look like. However, sometimes we use more complex-looking orthodontic appliances to treat severe bite problems. Head Gear is one of them. It is a removable orthodontic appliance that has a wire piece that is applied to upper molars and a neck strap to generate forces. It is recommended in growing patients where jaw alignment needs correction to treat the bite problem. We do see a great improvement in patients within six-to-twelve months who use the headgear as recommended. In case of poor compliance, the duration of headgear application is longer. It only works while patients are growing so it is important to start at the appropriate age.
