Dr. Emel Arat is enthusiastic about the art and science behind orthodontic treatment. It gives her the ultimate gratification to customize orthodontic treatment according to her patients’ needs and provide the proper therapy with the most advanced techniques. She is a strong believer in taking the time to inform her patients about the cause of their orthodontic needs and the underlying principles of their treatment. Her passion for excellent treatment outcomes is the key for providing long-lasting, healthy and beautiful smiles.

Following her service to her colleagues and the orthodontics profession as the President of the Ontario Association of Orthodontists Dr. Arat is currently assisting the OAO board as the Immediate Past President. 

Dr. Arat’s passion for mentoring follows her outside the university. Her undergraduate students and orthodontic residents from University of Toronto can sometimes be seen at Leaside Orthodontic Centre, shadowing her while she helps her patients on their journey to achieving beautiful smiles.

Dr. Arat is committed to continuing her education in order to provide her patients with the very best orthodontic care available. She is a Certified Invisalign® provider and a Certified Harmony® Lingual Braces provider. She also holds memberships in the Canada Association of Orthodontists, Ontario Association of Orthodontists, Toronto Orthodontic Study Club, Orthodontic Alumni Association of University of Toronto and the European Orthodontic Society in order to stay current on all the latest advancements in the orthodontic field.

A South Leaside resident herself, Dr. Arat is happily married to her husband, Arin. They are blessed with a son and twin girls. Dr. Arat likes to travel and read – however, as her children are young, she especially enjoys the rare quiet moments in her life.
